Widely used Binance-linked coin, but a reported $6.3B Binance hack and an SEC case weigh on trust
BNB is the native token of BNB Chain, which is closely tied to Binance. It has real usage (exchange access, tokenized-fund activity, regular burns) and a publicly known backer in Changpeng Zhao (CZ). Against that, the SEC alleged in 2023 that BNB was sold as an unregistered security, and late-October 2026 reports describe a roughly $6.3B Binance security incident. BNB Chain says its own networks were unaffected, and some of this reporting is still developing. Details on tokenomics and fundraising for the planned new Layer 1 are thin in the sources reviewed.
