UNI launched in September 2020 as the governance token of the Uniswap protocol. Uniswap's own materials show the launch milestones were met and the four-year vesting schedule has finished. Uniswap Labs received an SEC Wells notice in April 2024, which the company says was closed with no action in February 2025. It also settled a CFTC order in September 2024 with a $175,000 penalty. Because Uniswap is non-custodial, many public complaints (especially on Trustpilot) concern lost gas, failed swaps and unsellable tokens, with no refunds available.
